FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What does my $100 per month go towards?

Your $100 + gst monthly support helps KiwiHarvest rescue quality food and redistribute it to community organisations supporting families in need across New Zealand. The food KiwiHarvest rescues is all donated, so costs are predominantly the team of food rescue drivers, trucks and warehouses.

2. What kind of impact does $100 actually make?

$100 that punches above its weight.

A single monthly contribution enables the rescue of over 300 meal equivlanets with a retail value of over $900. It also prevents the release of aprox 400 kgs of CO2eq. When combined with other MAKE IT MATTER Supporters, this creates meaningful, large-scale impact for thousands of families every week.

3. How is this different from other charity donations?

MAKE IT MATTER is built on collective impact. Rather than one-off giving, businesses contribute a simple monthly amount that combines with others to create consistent, scalable support.

It’s also highly efficient — food rescue allows us to deliver more impact per dollar than many traditional models.

4. Is this tax deductible?

This is not a donation. This is sponsorship with value offered to supporting businesses. Sponsorship is a business expense and may be tax deductible. We recommend speaking with your financial advisor for guidance specific to your situation.

5. How much time or effort is involved from our side?

None.

Make It Matter is designed to be simple:

  • No complex agreements

  • No ongoing admin

  • No time commitment from you or your team

6. How do I know the impact is real?

KiwiHarvest provides impact updates, including reports and stories from the community organisations we support.

You’ll be able to clearly see the difference your support is making as part of the collective.

7. We’d rather support something local or visible.

KiwiHarvest works with over 235 community organisations across New Zealand, ensuring food is redistributed directly into local communities.

Your support contributes to impact that is both local and nationwide.

8. Can we share this with our community, staff and customers?

Yes.

All MAKE IT MATTER Supporters receive a supporter pack with digital assets, including:

  • Digital branding for your website, social media, email signature and use in collateral

  • Car stickers for your team’s vehicles

  • Your business will be named on MAKE IT MATTER Supporters Wall at local branch of KiwiHarvest.

  • Annual statement of Impact for MAKE IT MATTER - showing the difference your support is making.

  • Invitation to KiwiHarvest networking events.

  • Note if you pause or cancel your support then all references to or utilisation of MAKE IT MATTER branding must be taken down.

9. Why focus on food specifically?

Food is a basic, immediate need.

By providing food to community organisations, we free up their resources so they can focus on delivering other critical services — from housing and wellbeing to education and recovery support.

10. Can we do more if we want to?

Yes. Businesses can increase their level of support at any time or explore additional ways to partner with KiwiHarvest.

11. Will this benefit our business in any real way?

Beyond making a meaningful contribution to your community, many businesses value:

  • Positive brand association

  • Staff engagement and pride

  • A simple way to demonstrate social responsibility

12. Is this going to become more expensive over time?

No. Your monthly contribution remains flexible, and you can adjust or cancel at any time.

13. Is the food actually good quality?

Yes.

KiwiHarvest rescues quality, surplus food that is still perfectly good to eat and redistributes it safely through trusted community organisations.
